Wharf - David Etheridge
Towyn Wharf is a representation of the Talyllyn Railway's (TR) terminus station at Towyn and will be familiar to all TR fans. It is modelled to the unusual scale of 5.5mm/ft (1:55) using 12mm (TT) gauge. This is the scale originally developed by GEM in the 1960s.
Locos comprise GEM kits, scratchbuilt bodies on Triang chassis re-motored with 5-pole mechanisms and kitbashed items.
Coaches are scratchbuilt and wagons are a combination of kits and scratchbuilt. Materials used are a combination of plasticard balsa and hardwood, running on adapted chassis. All the stock use brass bearings for free running.
Track uses N gauge rail glued to wood sleepers using impact adhesive, and buildings are made from card on balsa frames.
Scenery is made using familiar techniques and Woodland Scenics materials.
Further details of the layout and the 5.5mm Association are available from the layout operators, or contact David Etheridge for further information.
